Tuareg Shawl Weight A
Mali#JW-61
Tuareg women wear a wrapped garment somewhat like the Indian sari called a "mefala". Shawl weights or "asrou n'swoul" are a favorite traditional trousseau gift from a husband's family. A shawl weight is knotted into the loose end of a "mefala" worn over the head and then thrown over the shoulder.
The weight is made of brass, copper, silver and wood.
