Palestinian Headdress
Palestine#MH-33
This magnificent and rare "wuqayat al-durahem" (money hat) is from Bethlehem or Hebron and dates from the late 1800's. Wedding headdresses were usually owned by one family and loaned to brides for elaborate and very costly wedding celebrations. It is covered with hundreds of coins, many dating from the Ottoman era. This example was collected over 30 years ago in a suq in Jerusalem.
