This is an unusually fine old (ca. late 1800's) Turkmen ladies "chyrpy". It is indigo-dyed silk with a resist-dyed handspun cotton lining. The lining is the surest indication of its age, as this type was replaced with printed Russian floral cottons about 1930. The overall condition is very good. The "chyrpy" was often worn as a cape or over the head which is why the sleeves can be buttoned together in the back. It is also very wearable as a coat.
