Mexico - Masks 2
Mexican Masks
Mexico preserves a lively masking tradtion, much of it traceable to pre-conquest Aztec shamanism. Many of the masked dances center around the disastrous effect the conquest had on native Indians, and include masks mocking the Spanish with broad caricatures. Other masks derive from Christian symbols often mixed with pre-conquest religious motifs.
