Nigeria - Ibeji Dolls
	A very fine, richly patinated pair of Yoruba Ibeji dolls. The incidence of twin births is unusually high among the Yoruba, and this has been given supernatural importance. Because infant mortality is still very high, it is fairly common for one or both twins to not survive. In that case the deceased twin is represented by an Ibeji figure. A statue is carved, preserved, and taken care of on the family altar. This well-handled old pair is a rare type.
