Papua New Guinea - Trobriand Islands Canoe Splash Board
	The Trobriand Islanders, legendary seafarers, are very proud of their seagoing canoes, embellished with magical and symbolic parts such as this splashboard mounted at the prow. The design, including stylized frigate birds, snakes and other animals seems to suggest the ocean's spray and curling waves. The example shown is a fine used piece with much of the original paint intact.
